About Critter Catch
Free online creature-catching adventure with a walkable park, nineteen original critters, four ways to play and three difficulty levels.
Catching games are really aiming games wearing a costume, and the costume is what makes children want to play them for an hour. Every critter here is our own - nineteen of them across five habitats, from the common Puffbun in the meadow to the Starfawn that only turns up in the moonlit glade. The skill is in the ring: it shrinks and grows on a loop, and the best throws land inside it while it is small, so a patient player beats a fast one. The three difficulties change more than the numbers. On Easy the critters barely move, every throw is nudged toward its target and nothing ever runs away, which is right for a five-year-old. On Advanced there is no aim help at all, the ring gets tiny, critters hop out of the way of a throw and rarer ones turn up more often - which is where an adult finally has to concentrate.

Do I need to walk around outside to play?๏ผ
No. The whole park is on the screen - you walk your trainer around it with a tap, or with the arrow keys on a computer. It works sitting on the sofa.
What ages is it for?๏ผ
About five and up on Easy, where aiming is helped and nothing escapes. Intermediate suits most older children, and Advanced is a real test for teenagers and adults.
How do family games work?๏ผ
Family Hunt is two to four players taking turns on one device. Everyone gets the same park, the same critters in the same places and the same clock, so the only difference is how well you play. Team Raid is co-operative: you pass the device round one throw each against a giant critter.
Is my collection saved?๏ผ
Yes. Explore mode keeps your collection book, trainer level, orbs and berries in this browser. Clearing your browser data clears it too.
What makes a throw Great or Excellent?๏ผ
Where the ring is when the orb lands. Landing inside a big ring is Nice, inside a medium one is Great, and inside a small one is Excellent. Each step catches more often and scores more.
How do I throw a curveball?๏ผ
Hold the orb and draw a full circle with it, then flick. A glowing ring around the orb tells you the spin has taken. Curveballs catch more often and score a bonus.
Can anyone else see or talk to my child in this game?๏ผ
No. Critter Catch runs entirely on your device. There is no chat, no join code and nobody else in the park. The only thing that leaves the device is a finished Safari Rush score for the high-score board, with the player name if one has been set on this device.
