About Riddle Race
Eight traditional riddles, read out loud one at a time. Say the answer back before the clock runs down. It speaks and it listens, so it works with the phone face down on a long drive. Free, no sign-up.
This is the only game on the site that works with the screen face down, because it both speaks and listens. That makes it the one to open in a car: the riddle is read to the whole vehicle, anybody can shout the answer, and the driver never has to look. The riddles themselves are the traditional ones - what has hands but cannot clap, what gets wetter the more it dries, the Sphinx's own riddle about four legs in the morning - and each carries a list of other wordings that count, so a clock and clock and a watch are all the same answer. Arguing with a seven-year-old about a definite article would ruin the whole thing. Answering only opens once the reading has finished, so the game never hears its own voice and scores it.

Does it read the riddles out?๏ผ
Yes, that is the point of it. Every riddle is spoken aloud, and there is a Read it again button if somebody missed it.
Can we play it in the car?๏ผ
It is built for it. The riddle is read out, anybody can say the answer, and nobody has to look at the screen.
What if I phrase the answer differently?๏ผ
It accepts the wordings that mean the same thing. A clock, clock and a watch all count for the same riddle, and saying I think it is a clock counts too.
Do I need a microphone?๏ผ
No. Without one it becomes a typing game with the same riddles, the same clock and the same streak.
Is my voice recorded?๏ผ
No audio reaches this site, nothing is recorded and nothing is stored. In Chrome the recognition itself is done by Google, exactly as a voice search is - the Type instead button avoids that entirely.
