About 20 Questions

Free voice-controlled 20 Questions. The computer thinks of something, you ask yes-or-no questions out loud, and it answers and reads the answer back.

Twenty Questions is the oldest car game there is, and it works beautifully hands-free: tap the mic, ask out loud, and the answer is spoken back so everyone in the room hears it without crowding the screen. The secret is always drawn from a fixed family-friendly list rather than invented on the spot, which is what makes the game honest - the answer can be checked exactly rather than argued about, and nothing unsuitable can turn up. When an AI key is configured the answers are worked out by the model, and when it is not, a built-in answerer reasons from the same facts and simply says it is not sure rather than bluffing. Either way the game always plays.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a microphone?

No. Voice is a bonus. There is a text box under the mic, and typing your question does exactly the same thing.

Why does the mic not work on my iPhone?

Safari on iOS does not support the browser speech recognition this uses. The text box works everywhere, so the game is fully playable on any device.

Can it hear my question wrongly?

Occasionally, yes. What it heard is shown in the list of questions, so you can always see what was actually asked and simply ask again.

How do I guess the answer?

Just say or type the name of the thing, for example 'is it a penguin'. A correct name ends the game immediately.

Does it ever make up an answer?

It should not. The secret is one of a fixed list of everyday things with known facts, and when the answer really is not clear the game says it is not sure rather than guessing.

Can we play as a group?

That is the best way. Put it on one screen, let the answers be read aloud, and take turns asking a question each.
