English for Year 1 / Grade 1

Ages 5-6. Sounds and rhymes, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary, from first letters up to the words adults get wrong.

Questions are picked fresh every run from across Year 1 topics, so no two goes are the same. Nothing is saved anywhere but this device.

What Year 1 covers

The three levels

All three ask Year 1 questions. The level changes how much help you get, not how hard the maths is.

Easy8 questions ยท 3 lives ยท no clock

No clock, three lives and two helpers. Take as long as you like.

Medium10 questions ยท 3 lives ยท 25s each

Twenty-five seconds a question, three lives, one helper.

Hard12 questions ยท 2 lives ยท 15s each

Fifteen seconds, two lives, no helpers. Bigger score if you hold on.

For the grown-up in the room

  • Every answer is explained, right or wrong. That line is the part that teaches.
  • The results screen breaks the round down by topic, so you can see what to practise rather than just a score.
  • Read-aloud is on by default at this age, so a child who cannot read the question yet can still play alone.
  • Nothing is stored anywhere but this device, and no score from here goes on a public board.
